Establishment of COVID-19 Laboratory Special
Task Force (Jawatankuasa Pasukan Khas Makmal

COVID-19 )

Medical Development Division played an important role as the Secretariat
of this Special Task Force which was established and officially appointed
by the Director-General of Health of Malaysia on 14 July 2020.

The task force is not only responsible for the planning of the needs and
strategies of COVID-19 laboratory service and capacity but it is also tasked
to ensure the quality of COVID-19 testing and laboratories, to monitor and
analyse surveillance data as well as diagnostic activities and to enhance
the COVID-19 laboratory biosafety and biosecurity features.

The task force has also developed the Standard Operating Procedure for
SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Testing Laboratory version 1.0 2020 which provided
a proper and standard mechanism on RT-PCR laboratory application and
recognition.
