Some NGOs have helped by providing protective masks,
disinfection chambers and helping to educate citizens on
COVID-19.
Due to the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, there have been
shortages in PPE equipment. NGOs and public figures have
helped to sew PPE for frontliners.
For example, several Malaysian fashion designers associated
with the Malaysian Official Designers Association (MODA) have
produced PPE for local medical staff.
Prison inmates have also been involved in sewing protective gear
for frontliners. Volunteer tailors also helped to prepare PPE for
frontliners.
There were also volunteers that leveraged technology to ramp up
production of personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontliners,
using 3D printers, laser cutters and plastic injection moulding
machines to produce safety gear.
Varsities that have joined the fray include Universiti Teknologi
Mara (UiTM) and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).
Private hospitals in Malaysia loaned ventilators without any cost
to MOH to help overcome shortages during the initial stage of
second wave.
Pharmaniaga Logistic Sdn Bhd (PLSB) has assisted MOH for the
storage and distribution of these donations without any cost as
their CSR activities.
Hotel industries also started to offer free accommodation for
healthcare professional.
